On Saturday, me and Antony met up to go for the keys to the flat. I drove to his house at nine that morning, and we met the landlord at the flat. It needed a bit of a clean and tidy; the last tenants had left quite a mess, two young lads who liked to party. It had empty cans all over the place, and it needed painting. It had taken a little over a month for them to leave, but we didn’t mind.

The landlord owned and worked in the shop below. He said we could take it today, as it was. If we cleaned it ourselves, he would not charge us for the first month. Antony almost took the guys hand off.

“Yes, we will do that. We’ll take it,” he said. “We can clean it, can’t we Danni?”

“Erm, yeah, I suppose,” I answered.

We took the keys, there and then. I walked round to one of the shops and bought some cleaning supplies. When I came back, I texted Winters that we’d got the flat. She said she wanted to come and help clean the place with us. We began, shoving all the rubbish into black sacks which we dumped outside. I began scrubbing and washing every surface.

Antony nipped out and bought paint so we could give the living room a once over; then Antony, Winters, and I got to painting. We had fun, all talking and saying how big the flat was and planning the parties we might throw there. We popped out to the chip shop for lunch, then back to painting and cleaning. We were done for about four o’clock, and Antony wanted to stay there that night.

“Really, we could just move in tomorrow,” I said.

“No, I want to live with you right away. I don’t want to wait.” Antony said.

“Ok then, let’s go pick up some supplies for tonight.” I gave in, why not?

We got in my car, and I drove us to pick up the basics we’d need for the first night. Toiletries, the television, some books, and clothes, and we stayed the night in our flat. I remember the first night well—cosy, quiet, agreeable—something different for us. We didn’t have a bed, so we kind of camped out in the living room with cushions and a duvet. We ate pizza and watched the television on the floor. We didn’t have an Ariel, so we ended up watching The Lion King.

It was nice. I believe it’s one of my best memories of Antony, a good day.
